Sat 5th – Sun 6th June 2010

Nine members made the trek to the beautiful Strawberry Cottage in Glen Affric. Unfortunately, the midges were waiting for us, so despite being a fine evening we were forced to quench our thirst indoors next to the roaring fire (it might be June, but burning stuff is always good).
Despite a few sore heads (attributed to cheap whisky), Fiona Duncan, Graeme Morrison, Evelyn Droege, Alan Duncan, Jake Lee, Chrissy McKay, Ali Erginsoy, Daniel Moysey and two dogs set off to traverse the three Munros of Mam Sodhail, Carn Eighe and Beinn Fhionnlaidh. The weather was kind and for the first time this year it was actually pleasant to sit around on the summits.
Pete Goodwin made a solitary trip to one of the tops at the northern end of the long ridge leading from Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnan to Mullach na Dheiragain.
Most folk were sweaty after a long day in the hot sun (although not Fiona because she doesn’t sweat…or anything else…). Fortunately, the River Affric provided a good substitute for showers. The long day took its toll and Saturday evening’s festivities were uncharacteristically overtaken by tiredness at just 11pm!
After a good night’s sleep we woke up to low cloud and more midges. The enthusiasm for another long day dwindled. Nonetheless, Pete Goodwin went up a historic top on the south side of Glen Affric and another group ascended the Graham of Beinn a Mheadhoin.
Lastly, thanks to Graeme Morrison for the 4×4 taxi service.
