Assynt has an impressive array of outstanding mountains: Ben More Assynt, Conival, Canisp, Quinag, Breabag – names to conjure with. The rock in this area is predominantly gneiss, on top of which sandstone hills have weathered to create some of the weird and magnificent shapes typical of this region and on a clear day, this is an area where you like to linger as long as possible.
In addition to the excellent hillwalking in this area, there is some good scrambling on Quinag (Sail Gharbh, East Buttress – Grade 3), Conival (South Ridge – Grade 2/3) and Ben More Assynt (South Ridge – Grade 1).
For the dedicated cragrat, there is some very accessible rock climbing not far off the road at Inchnadamph, with a number of single pitch routes in the V Diff – HVS range.

NB: Sharp-eyed members have already noticed that the 23rd is not in fact the third Sunday of the month, when we traditionally have our bus meets. The appropriate party has been hung drawn and quartered for this gross oversight (!), however, we have decided to keep the meet on the 23rd for the sake of simplicity. See you all there!
