New Members Meet, Sunday 8th May 2022

The committee is planning a special day to introduce potential new members to the club on Sunday 8th May.  It will essentially be a bus meet to Kingussie and Newtonmore but a bit more involved, with planned activities that new folk can join in with, such as climbing at Kingussie Crag, hillwalking in the Monadhliath and low level walks, culminating in drinks and nibbles at a local pub.  The idea is to introduce people to the club – to club members and activities.  It would be great to have plenty of friendly club members there, including volunteers to be a part of each activity on the day.  Please save the date and help to spread…

Ballachulish Weekend Meet Report, 4th – 6th February 2022

The weather promised “sub-optimal” conditions all weekend so Joe managed to make the most of the bearable weather. Recently having succumbed to bagging fever he managed both Ben Challum and Ben Mheadhoin before arriving at the Alex Macintyre Memorial Hut in Ballachulish. With 70mph gusts forecasted for the Saturday, no bold routes were planned on Friday night. The “baby buckle” (Buachaille Etive Beag) was in order for Adele, Adrian, Sheena, David and Minnie. Despite Adele being adamant they should leave at 2200 for the supposed weather window, 12 hours later they left. Adrian realised he had an appointment with his van half way up, and Sheena decided a walk along the A82…

Member’s Achievements 2021

Despite a global pandemic and a lockdown where we couldn’t leave county boundaries, several MMC members still made the most of the year and completed various rounds of the Scottish hills. Congratulations to Sheena Forsyth, Alistair Jeffs, Gavin Scott, and David Treagus for completing (their first round of) the Munros! Big congratulations to Corbitteer, Fiona Duncan for completing the rugged challenge of the Corbetts. Here’s a link to the club’s Hall of Fame. It showcases not only Scottish achievements but adventures and peaks climbed worldwide. For those new to hill bagging, with Walk Highlands you can start your munro map here. New Years Meet 2021-22, Kintail Outdoor Centre

New Year Meet 2021-22 (names omitted to protect the innocent and any possible guilty persons). A small band of highly tested, super-injected over-dosed virus resistant persons met (within the carefully thought out guidelines and risk assessed requirements) for the Kintail New Year Meet.  The cup of kindness was definitely full as it meant we all had our own room with private facilities. The weather was pretty poor but a good time was had by all.  Various low level walks occurred around Balmacara, Glenelg and up the valley to the waterfall and bothy which contained some Edinburgh student-types.  The mountaineering highlight was the 2-person summit of the Corbett Sgurr Mhic Bharraich in…

There will be a night navigation training event on Sat 22 Jan.  Start at 1pm and finish around 8pm. There will be some theory (and tea and cake) at my house in Dufftown.  This will be followed by some group practice on the Cabrach Moor as it gets dark (and darker).  Bonus is a great night sky out there usually. No previous experience necessary.  No cost.  On the day you will need normal hill gear and map case and compass.  We will supply the map. If you have any questions or wish to attend please let me know by email ajeffs23@yahoo.co.uk Thanks Alistair
