December 2012 Bus Meet Report: Fannichs

Christmas Bus Meet & Meal               Well Happy New Year to you all. Sorry about the delay in posting the bus report – I’m still suffering from writer’s droop due to the festive season, but enough of my sufferings. Clambering out of the bus first and heading for the dizzying heights of Carn Loch nan Amhaichean, all 697 metres of it, were John Henderson, George Herraghty, Dan Moysey, Derrick Harman, Brent Craig and One Nighter Whitelock. Shadowing them as far as Strathrannoch, the Anthill Mob’s Chugga-Boom ground to a halt, laden I fear with illicit booze. The gang, comprising…

December 2012 Weekend Meet Report: Ling Hut, Torridon

The usual writer is suffering from an attack of grumpiness brought on by suspicions of censorship and surveillance by some technologically superior power. Therefore, it falls to me to provide a factually accurate summary of the weekend meet to Torridon. I thought I would start with some statistics: 13 members, 1 hut, 2 days rain, 70mph wind, zero summits attained, some stars, 2 galaxies (Andromeda and Milky Way), 1 planet (Jupiter, complete with its moons) and several shooting stars. Sadly the superb astronomical observation conditions that greeted us upon arrival soon faded away (a pre-emptive sign foretelling the sad death of Sir Patrick?). The Ling Hut in Torridon might be…

November 2012 Bus Meet Report: Laggan

What did the rest of you do last Sunday? We all had a great day out, for the best part in beautiful clear winter weather. Twenty-seven of us (The Anthill Mob) descended on Laggan for the monthly Moray Mountaineering Club Wacky Races. Getting off to a fine start, Graeme (Zippy) Morrison headed for I know not where, but as always arrived back at the finishing line in fine style. Colin Cowie, Bob MacDonald and Paul (no trousers) Chappell shot out of the blocks at Luiblea in the direction of Beinn a’ Clachair via the west ridge. They found the going tough due to the soft snow. Not lingering on the…

September 2012 Weekend Meet Report: Glenbrittle, Skye

Fortunately there is no lasting record of the hordes that descended on to Glenbrittle last September. Suffice to say, we were too many and I don’t think we’ll get away with that again! However, the floor is the best place for some members and after Bill Lindsay’s last foray on Jura, he’s lucky to get a roof over his head. The wise, the retired and the wage-less were able to have a full day on the Friday, thus getting the best of the weather. John Henderson, Brent Craig and Derrick Harman clambering over the Graham and the Marilyn respectively of Belig and Glas Bheinn Mhor. Brent and Derrick on Belig…
