Tranter Round Adventure

This route was Philip Tranter’s original 24 hour concept of climbing all 19 Munros (Now 18) surrounding Glen Nevis, The Mamores, The Grey Corries, The Aonachs and Ben Nevis and was first completed in June 1964. My son Steven and myself fancied giving this route a go late last year and decided middle to late May was the ideal time as it would give us maximum amount of daylight, settled weather conditions and less midges. The forecast for Saturday 31st May 2014 looked spot on. We travelled down to Fort William on Friday night up Glen Nevis and parked the camper van at Achriabhach, the original starting and finishing point.…

May 2014 Bus Meet Report: Dundonnell

It was a damp dreich day for the Bus meet to Dundonnell but thankfully the weather was not as bad as predicted, and we certainly did not see any animals walking around in pairs?? Only 13 members and 4 guests turned out for this meet which normally offers a variety of walking options, although it was probably not a day for a full traverse of An Teallach. First off the bus was Andy who began his traverse of the 4 eastern Fannaich Munros from the dam at Loch Droma. After ascending Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich it was a case of navigating through the cloud to the final Munro of An…

Staying on the bus to Morvich will allow you the choice of A’Ghlas-bheinn and Beinn Fhada or a low level walk to the Falls of Glomach, one…

April 2014 Weekend Meet Report: Torridon

April in Torridon, always a gamble. It could be full winter conditions on Liathach or shorts and T shirt rock climbing on Beinne Eighe. It might be hot and hazy, with a day wandering the hills interspersed with welcome dips in burns and lochans, or that wander may be more reminiscent of Scott’s last expedition. This weekend was not unusual. It was quite wet, but not a washout. There were views, but not many. And there was snow, but not much. The club stayed at the classic mountaineering hut, the Ling Hut. The hut was found easily by most, despite being shyly tucked away from the road on the far…
