Montane Discount

A generous discount has been negotiated with Montane, manufacturer of outdoor gear and clothing. Club members can now purchase Montane gear and clothing at “Professional pricing” levels i.e. circa one-third (33%) off. To take advantage of this generous discount, members must place any required order via Dave Whitelock. All purchases must be directed via Dave. A list of Montane gear, complete with pricing, will be emailed to all members in due course. Please note that returns will incur postage charges. March 2013 Weekend Meet: Clashgour

Clashgour is a lovely wee hut. Now both “lovely” and “wee” are subjective terms and open to debate, although I would like to think that most people who spend time in Clashgour Hut do appreciate the character of the place, the compact, yet functional space, the history – over a hundred years old and formally a school, still retaining the school bell and the framed sketch on the wall of the “Horny Golloch” with attached poem that apparently dates back to Clashgour’s own school days. Its current incarnation as the hut of Glasgow University Mountaineering Club has been a long and vibrant one, where the fast turnaround of club membership has lead…

March 2013 Bus Meet: Blair Atholl

Twelve members and guests boarded the bus and headed South down the A9. Bill and Graham were first off the bus at the Trinafour turning. They successfully ascended the Corbett An Dun. Kat, Fiona, Jenny and David headed up Glen Tilt towards Carn a’Chlamain. Kat and Fiona continued farther than intended (Plan A was to leave plenty of time for the teashop), but wisely turned back before the snow got too deep. Jenny and David continued manfully onwards and upwards and finally arrived at a spot that was declared the summit. Jerry, Malcolm, Fiona, Bob and Sheena went up Glen Tilt past Gilbert’s Bridge (so they claim…more later). As they ascended…

2013 Club Ceilidh

A great evening was had by all at the annual Moray Mountaineering Club Ceilidh. The event was well attended, with over 100 members and guests regularly filling the floor. Buskoe Sike were superb, encouraging everyone onto the floor from the first dance. Jake announced the raffle winners with usual banter – one prize was even won by ‘God’. A big thanks to everyone on the Committee who made this enjoyable event happen and thanks to everyone who came along to make the night a success. A few photos follow.

February 2012 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Etive

Fourteen members successfully completed the first challenge – finding the Inbhirfhaolain hut in the dark; not an easy task for first-timers. Saturday was dry with great views and lovely snow – a meteorological phenomenon not seen in Glen Etive since the days of General Wade. Folk headed off in all directions. Rachel Higgins and her two sherpas, Dave (two nights, one walk) Whitelock and Malcolm Campbell, packed their winter mountaineering kit (waders and a snorkel) and headed up Ben Starav. The day started with the traditional bog trot, but this soon gave way to snow. With ice axes at the ready they ascended the fantastic ridge that leads all the…
