Sunday, 20 Sep 2015 O.S.Map(s): 33 Est. time of arrival: 09.30 Time of departure: 17.30 Leave Elgin: 07.00 Some of the finest hillwalking in Scotland can be found in the Kintail area, with the South Cluanie Ridge and the Five Sisters offering spectacular traverses. These can be as long and hard as you like, as there are several opportunities for early escapes if time is running short. Alternatively, you may want to try the impressive Forcan Ridge with its excellent scramble leading up to the Saddle. Staying on the bus to Morvich will allow you the choice of A’Ghlas-bheinn and Beinn Fhada or a low level walk to the Falls of Glomach, one…
August 2015 Bus Meet Report: Glen Feshie to Linn of Dee
Surprise, surprise, we managed to run a bus meet after a gap of 4 months back to the distant memory of the Fannaichs in April! A late surge of bookings enabled this unique traverse to go ahead and, according to Bob Macdonald, a traverse that had never been done before by the Club. It was a slightly chilly, overcast day as the 24 debussed, with a little bit of trepidation, at the car park at Auchlean. At least no one had to carry a heavy bottle of sun cream! First away was new member Karen Frake, who elected to run most of the 28kms and arrived back at the Linn…
August 2015 Bus Meet: Cairngorm Traverse (Glen Feshie to Linn of Dee)
Looking towards Sgor Gaoith from near Monadh Mor Date: Sunday 16th August 2015 Est. time of arrival: 09:30 Time of departure: 18:00 Leave Elgin: 07:00 Traverses are what Bus Meets are made for and this is one possibly not previously undertaken by the Club? Instead of the usual Cairngorm Traverses from Linn of Dee through to the Cairngorm Car Park or from Glen Feshie to Coylumbridge, this traverse will go from Glen Feshie through to Linn of Dee. This meet will primarily provide the opportunity to traverse the Cairngorms via Monadh Mor and Beinn Bhrotain and also, if desired, take in the remote Munro top of Carn Clioch-mhuilinn. Going by Naismith’s rule,…
July 2015 Car Meet: Morven (Caithness)
Date: Sunday 19th July 2015 Starting point: Braemore (inland from Dunbeath) Car Meet (Arrangements will be posted on Club Facebook Group) Due to a historically low turnout of members at this time of year, a car meet will take place instead of a Bus Meet. The venue on Sunday 19 July 2015 will be Morven / Scaraben in Caithness. Morven and Scaraben are both Grahams. These prominent conglomerate hills are visible from right along the Moray/Aberdeenshire coast looking across the Moray Firth. In fact, Morven is only c.35 miles from Lossiemouth as the crow flies. Depending on how long a day you desire you can ascend any combination of Maiden…

April 2015 Bus Meet Report: Fannaichs
If you wanted to experience the “Joys of Hill Walking” this was the day to do it! Virtually clear skies, warm and windless conditions (and pre-midge) …. just about sums it up! 23 people came out on this trip, and we picked up a couple of itinerant trekkers for the journey home! There are a great range of hills on the Garve/Ullapool road and the use of the Bus allows for traverses or you can just pick off a few Munros at a time. Of the first group to get off at Lochdrum dam, Rob Murray went North to do Ben Dearg (minus fishing gear!). Bill, Kevin, Alastair, Jenny, Andy…

March 2015 Bus Meet Report: Drumochter
After many recent Bus meets with horrible weather conditions, this turned out to be one of those days when you just had to be out on the hills! Despite weather reports indicating low cloud and poor visibility, it became obvious as we travelled down the A9, that the weather reports were completely wrong! We were joined on this meet by 3 members of the Inverness Back Country Ski Club, and these hills on the western side of the Drumochter Pass provide excellent terrain for ski touring, with a starting point of 450m! There were 25 people on the Bus and Andy L also joined the group after a few days…

The bus has not visited Drumochter since 2010! As in previous years, the bus will divert off the A9 through Kingussie and Newtonmore to Dalnaspidal, allowing access to hills as far south as Beinn Udlamain and Sgairneach Mhor, before rejoining the A9 again and parking up at Balsporran for the day. To the east are Carn na Caim, A’Bhuidheanach Bheag and Meall Chuaich. The Fara, a Corbett on the north side of…
