September 2011 Bus Meet Report: Lochnagar

The Art of Rain (Mitchell D. Wilson) Falling down, pooling up,  Out of the sky, into my cup. What is this wet that comes from above,  That some call disaster, and others find love. The harder it falls, the less it is nice,  The colder it falls the harder the ice. The rain has an art that I may not get,  So I stand still here and get soaking wet.   George Herraghty was first off the bus in the middle of nowhere. Making his way towards a couple of heather covered Grahams that he will probably never want to visit again, Mona Gowan and Gaellaig Hill. – The joys…

June 2011 Bus Meet Report: Linn of Dee – Cairngorm Traverse

Thirty-five thoroughbreds raced out of the Linn of Dee car park, heading north towards Corrie Cas and the Sugar Bowl car parks. They were briefly corralled at Derry Lodge before stampeding in various directions.  John Henderson, Drummond Beattie, Ella Grant, Ray Newell, Craig Coull and John Leonard made their way to the junction of Glen Luibeg and the Lairig Ghru. They continued on over the Munro, Carn a’ Mhaim, and then up the rocky southern approach to Ben Macdui. Great weather for the first part of the walk deteriorated to light rain as they made their way down the tourist path to the car park – a smidgen before 6pm. …

May 2011 Bus Meet Report: Glenfinnan

In spite of knowing the weather forecast, 17 members and four guests set out for Glenfinnan. The forecast said it would rain all day – it rained all day! Nevertheless “fun” was had. The wider world must wonder at claim’s such as Bill’s to have done two Munros “in atrocious weather” while still managing to have “a good day out”. First off the bus was George Herraghty who went Graham hunting in the mist. (They were on Gulvain, George!) Heading off from Fassfern he happened across Meall Onfhaidh and Aodann Chleireig – it is probably stretching a point to suggest that he appreciated the opportunity that the weather gave…
