October 2016 Weekend Meet Report: Skye (Glen Brittle)

This meet was notable for the fact that the meets organiser finally managed to attend, despite the earlier confusion over the dates. Having last done the job over 20 years ago it came as a shock to be reminded that this involves trying to decipher illegible hieroglyphics in the Red Book to write this report (subtle hint) and to spend a while cleaning the hut after everyone’s departure (unsubtle hint). What was possibly the best weekend in the year on the west coast started early for Adrian Marsay and David Treagus who had a great day on A Chralaig and Mullach Fraoch Choire. Fourteen members eventually assembled at the recently…

August 2016 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Affric (Strawberry Cottage)

Friday evening saw a ragged bunch of would-be adventurers collecting in the car park at the eastern end of Loch Affric. There were several other parties there aside from the MMC members and by the constant and manic movements of all and judging from the bizarre varieties of headwear on show, it was painfully obvious, that on this still, dull day in August – the midge was wreaking its customary havoc. Zippy Morrison had driven in his faithful truck and it is with great thanks from all, that he managed to squeeze a lot of gear as well as the free-loaders; Jan, Ray, Heavy and Luca into his vehicle for…

July 2016 Weekend Meet Report: Ben Nevis (CIC Hut)

Well the weather forecast was a bit crap… but a small group still headed to the Charles Inglis Clark (CIC) Memorial Hut for the weekend!  Three of us (Joe, Dan and Jan) even managed to arrive dry by walking in on the Friday evening!  David, Adrian, and Megan had arrived earlier and had to do some drying out! If you don’t know the hut it is just 1km north from the Ben Nevis peak, a brilliant location at 680m, right next to the Alt a’Mhuilinn and nestling under the north face rocks.  It’s said to be the country’s only alpine hut and really has that feel – very well equipped…
