Sat 2nd – Sun 3rd April A perennial favourite, the Ling Hut was full to over-flowing with a few desperate stragglers even consigned to the distant car park. A foul Friday night with a fouler forecast for the next day, saw our assorted band huddled in the storm-battered hut, muttering grimly about low-level routes and alternative days out. And so it was, after a start that was more Alpen than Alpine, and with far too much credence given to the weather guess, various parties set out. Evelyne Droege, who was in the area for a few days, decided to take a little time out to smell the flowers, and visited…
March 2011 Weekend Meet Report: Braemar
Sat 5th – Sun 6th March, 2011 12 residents, two dogs and a tinker turned up at Rucksacks Bunkhouse for the usual shenanigins. Dave Whitelock scaled new heights of MMC musical talent by playing vaguely in tune and entertained us royally. Graeme Morrison did somewhat darkly lament the bygone days of late night partying, but as if on cue, Bob MacDonald returned from the pub to remind us all that there definitely are more things to weekends away than scaling the heights. Saturday was a fine day of sun screen and floppy hats, with thoughts even turning towards shorts wearing and skinny-dipping (Noooo! Mind-bleach – Ed.) Drummond Beattie and Andy…

February 2011 Weekend Meet Report: Roy Bridge
Sat 5th – Sun 6th February 2011 Roy Bridge is a new venue for the club (in recent years anyway) and it certainly proved popular with fifteen attendees despite a somewhat varied weather forecast. Alan Duncan, Fiona Duncan and Dave McLean tried to go up Leana Mhor twice. Well they would have if the bridge over the River Roy between the East and West Leana Mhors had not been washed away. The book did mention something about “a few planks missing” – sounds like time for an update. Andy Brooks also had a wander up Glen Roy to investiate the parallel roads – a reminder of the effects of the last…

New Year Meet Report: Kinlochleven
31 Dec 2010 – 3 Jan 2011 Fifteen members and guests attended the Moray Mountaineering Club’s Hogmanay celebrations in Kinlochleven. The party started with a three course meal. The cooking duties were shared the whole weekend and whether it was a salmon starter, cheese platter, curry, pudding or fine wine, the quality would have made Gordon Ramsey proud and the quantity would have impressed even John Prescott! Once dinner was over, the music started…Illona Morrice, Jake Lee, Andy Brooks and Fiona Duncan all demonstrated their musical skills. The rest of us watched, listened and sipped our orange juice. New year’s day dawned slightly “foggy” and so the day’s adventures commenced…
December 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Glencoe
Lagangarbh is always a popular location and despite the rather wintry weather in Moray during the preceding week, twelve members arrived. There was much less snow in the west than in Moray, but nonetheless full winter conditions still prevailed at any significant altitude. Joe Glennie and Jake Lee set off with the ambitious goal of a winter ascent of Curved Ridge. The conditions were “not ideal” – it took two pitches just to get to the foot of the route! A bit of faff later and the daylight was fading. Realising that the route will be there another day, they returned to the hut for some cask strength refreshment. Graeme…
December 2010 Weekend Meet: Glen Coe **FULL**

There is a car park just off the A82, but you can carefully drive down a track to a second car park next to the river. From here it is just a short walk to the hut. The hut is very comfortable and has electric cooking, lighting and heating. I don’t think it has a log fire so it’s probably…
