November 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Tyndrum

Sat 6th – Sun 7th November 2010 Tyndrum is a fantastic venue with dozens of great hills within easy reach. Spurred on by this thought, everyone was up and away early on Saturday morning. Evelyn Droege, Ray Harron, Oliver Galloway, Hannah McIntosh and Dave Galloway went up Beinn a’ Chreachain and Beinn Achaladair – two of the Bridge of Orchy hills. The going was a bit boggy at the start, but the ridge between the two Munros was good. The rather cold mist enveloping the summits called for some careful navigation (i.e. time to get the GPS out). Colin Cowie set out on his own to conquer Beinn Narnain; one…

October 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Durness

Sat 2nd – Sun 3rd October 2010 Eleven members and one canine guest arrived at the Lazy Crofter Bunkhouse in Durness. Saturday was a lovely sunny day, albeit a bit windy at higher levels.  Four groups headed off in different directions to explore the delights of the northern highlands. Graeme Morrison and Penny went up a couple of Grahams, including Ben Stack.  Dave Galloway and Ray Harron set off at “o-nine hundred hours” towards their target of Cranstackie and its neighbour Beinn Spionnaidh – mission accomplished (with some fine views towards Ben Loyal and Ben Hope as a bonus). Bob MacDonald, Alan Duncan and Dave McLean took the scenic road…

September 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Skye

Sat 4 – Sun 5 September 2010 We have been getting a good turn-out on most weekend meets recently, but the Skye meet broke all the records (as far as I can remember).  On the Saturday night there were over thirty members and guests in the bar, plus a few others still in the campsite.  I normally tryto mention everyone by name in the meet report, but in this case it is difficult, so apologies to anyone who is missed out. What was it that led to the great turnout?  Well, the Skye Cuillin are always going to be popular, but the main event was Bob MacDonald’s last Munro.  On…

August 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Etive

Sat 31 July – Sun 1 Aug 2010 Glen Etive is Gaelic for “land of much rain”.  True to form, Saturday started with a rather gloomy and wet outlook.  Climbing on the Etive Slabs was out of the question, so Graeme & Imke Henderson, Fiona Gingell, Tom Scott and Daniel Moysey went to the indoor wall at Kinlochleven for some ice/rock climbing.  In keeping with tradition, they paused at the Clachaig on the way back to the hut. Val, Alan, Jake, Drummond, Ella and Fiona climbed Beinn a’ Chreachain and Beinn Achaladair.  It stayed fair until they reached the first summit and then the rain started…which didn’t bother Fiona because…

July 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Applecross

Sat 3 – Sun 4 July 2010 A mix of poor weather forecast, holidays and a wedding took their toll on the turnout for this meet; in the event it was just Graeme Morrison, Margaret Hattersley and Illona Morrice who arrived at the Applecross campsite on Friday night. Margaret went home the next morning due to a wild night. On Saturday, Graeme went up the Graham, Beinn a Chlachain, while Illona walked to a stalkers hut on the other side of peninsular past Meall Loch Alasdair. The weather was mixed showers and sunshine. Both left early on Sunday as it rained and rained all night and looked as it would…
