5-6 September 2009 After a rather soggy 36 hours in Moray, sixteen lucky MMC members headed to the arid west coast of Scotland with ambitious plans for conquering the mighty peaks and ridges under clear blue skies. Hmm…it barely stopped raining all weekend! On Saturday, a group headed to the indoor climbing wall at Kinlochleven. Most of the rest stayed in the hut drinking “lemonade” or went for some retail therapy in Fort William. The forecast for Sunday looked a little more promising, but once again it rained… Time to head to Nevis Sport for some more armchair mountaineering. Despite the dire conditions, however, the crack was good and an…

4-5 July 2009 Thirteen members and guests enjoyed the stunning scenery and the beautiful weather around Achmelvich in the north-west highlands. Friday evening was spent enjoying the warm evening sunshine and discussing plans for the weekend. Ali, Sarah, Jake, Dan and Kate were seduced by the beautiful beach and went for a skinny dip in a secluded bay near the campsite. Jake was last seen doing some naked bouldering and meanwhile Ali spotted a “nice crack” at the back of the beach, which he declared was probably a “V Diff”! 6-7 June 2009 About 25 members and guests had a wonderful action-packed weekend on Skye! The weather was generally bright and sunny with a bit of a cool wind, which for Skye is about as good as it gets. Even the midges only made a brief half-hearted appearance at the Glenbrittle campsite. Saturday was dominated by groups doing the circuit of the awesome Coire Lagan. Alan Duncan, Fiona Duncan, Bob MacDonald, Val Kemp and David Brown Douglas set off up the west ridge to Sgurr Sgumain. Bob did some good route finding and got them to the chimney between Sgurr Sgumain and Sgurr Alasdair. The views were spectacular, with a…

We arrived on Rum on Saturday morning and everyone promptly dispersed in various directions. Illona Morrice, Dan Moysey, Graeme Henderson and Imke Meynecke headed off to explore some caves…
April 2009 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Clova
4-5 April 2009 First, a bit of history: In June 2000 the MMC weekend meet destination was Glen Clova. However by the Wednesday prior to the weekend there were no takers, so the new weekend meet secretary changed the venue to Skye. Now in April 2009, Dave’s last weekend meet as organiser was again Glen Clova, but this time a total of nine turned out and in spite of being below the average monthly turnout, it was a vast improvement on his first trip! Graeme Bartlett had Friday off, so he walked in from Glenshee to Glen Clova via the summits of Glas Maol and Monega Hill, across Glen Isla,…
