Beinn na Feusaige and the Maraunder
Fri: Arrived at the Invercroft Hut and did the usual opening up. Plenty of fuels were brought for the fire. Alistair, Heavy, Maggie and guest Mark went to do Beinn na Feusaige (Graham). Some navigation practice by Maggie and we finally found the right top. We went off to look for the Marauder crash site. Took some time as the grid reference Heavy had was for the hut and the height reference was wrong. But after searching all flanks we eventually found it and took some photos and said a little prayer for the unfortunate brave who died to give us today’s freedoms. A big eagle flew in the sky and we poked some fox scat. Retuned for some interesting stories in the hut (not recanted to protect the guilty, Maggie) and large Baileys… do help yourself… don’t mind if I do… it’s an extra large.
Bigger things
Day two Heavy was up early and put on the military kettles. He and Maggie headed off early to Fionn Bhein while Dan and Alistair had a good faff around. Maggie was on form with the navigation but unfortunately Heavy dropped into a hole and twisted his knee. They backed off the summit in the snow to make it back to the hut safely. Meanwhile on An Ruadh Stac, Dan and Alistair got a soaking on the approach, a wee break at Coulags bothy, then from the bealach after a bit of slip sliding about creating some fear, Dan got us on the ridge and we slowly but surely made our way up on soft snow on slippy boulders. Mucho spin drift on the summit but good views. Reverse out but met Ted (Martin Collins son) and his Bird (are you are allowed to say that now the Club is non-gender? … if not I will ask my 14 year old nephew as he has recently been taught there are 100 different genders and hopefully there will be a more specific and politically correct replacement) and got back to the hut for more banter and beer.
Carn Breac: long views and tops
After some deliberation about going to Beinn Eighe, we (Adele, Dan, Alistair) decided to look at it from the Graham of Carn Breac. And that turned out to be a treat. We managed to stop at every single graham top and pile of rocks which rewarded us of panoramic views of Beinn Eighe, the Fannichs, Beinn Liath group, Strathconnon etc. etc. all from slightly different viewpoints. Connecting to nature we saw regurgitated rowan berries, tracks of mountain hare, fox and ptarmigan (live as well). A big and grand day out.
