Sat 5th – Sun 6th February 2011

Roy Bridge is a new venue for the club (in recent years anyway) and it certainly proved popular with fifteen attendees despite a somewhat varied weather forecast.

Alan Duncan, Fiona Duncan and Dave McLean tried to go up Leana Mhor twice.  Well they would have if the bridge over the River Roy between the East and West Leana Mhors had not been washed away.  The book did mention something about “a few planks missing” – sounds like time for an update.  Andy Brooks also had a wander up Glen Roy to investiate the parallel roads – a reminder of the effects of the last ice age.  Ray Harron and Mark Richford went up Beinn a Chaorainn and Beinn Teallach, situated just to the west of Creag Meagaidh.

Jake Lee, Joe Glennie, Graeme Morrison, Daniel Moysey and Penny set out on a varied journey that started with taking the train to Corrour Station.  They then walked back over Beinn na Lap to Tulloch Station.  A wonderful trip that provided great views of the surrounding hills and the wild expanse of Rannoch Moor.

A large group headed up Stob Ban – a fine hill offering great views of the Grey Corries.  The story of the day seems to have been lost somewhere, but from memory the group included Illona Morrice, Sandra Doull, Dave Whitelock, Bill Lindsey and Evelyn Droege.  Towards the top the steep and rather firm snow highlighted the need to be equipped with ice axe and crampons.

Sunday provided a slightly more leisurely start, but the details will have to remain lost in the mists of time.

We also have a poem courtesy of Dave McLean….

Leana Mhor ( East ) Leana Mhor ( West )

” Bananas “

An alpine start was planned once again

ok  it was probably closer to 10

head up Glen Roy & look for the bridge

that’s the best way on to Leana Mhor’s ridge

the book said you’ll be able to cross it with care

but in reality the bridge wasn’t there

no problem we’ve never been beaten before

we just crossed the road to the other Leana Mhor

So back at the hostel awaiting the wine and the song

it was becoming obvious that something was wrong

the guitars and the fiddles never came oot

instead a word game named after a fruit !!!
