Due to the expected low turnout for this meet, private cars were used instead of the bus, and with a favourable forecast, 11 members and guests and 2 dogs set off to tackle Seana Bhraigh, which lies in isolated splendour in the midst of a watery wilderness.
From the new car park at Inverlael, the group set off up through the forest and followed the well worn path, over some tricky river crossings to the rim of the impressive Cadha Dearg (Red Pass). This is eagle country, but none were spotted as the now elongated group made their way up the final stony slopes to the summit – a wind break cairn sitting close to edge of nothing!
Two very friendly wild goats were the welcoming party at the top and the visibility was sufficient to allow views of the immense spaciousness of the huge corries and the empty land of the North West.

Wild? I was furious!
Bob Weeks, Graeme Morrison, Jenny Smith, Tish Richford, David Brown Douglas, John Henderson and Spence Julian were content to linger a while longer at the summit before making the long trek back to the car park. Greg and Chris Muir, Andrew McGhee and Lydia Davis decided, on their return, that it would be impossible to walk past some nearby Munros’ so they headed for Eididh nan Clach Geala and Meall nan Ceapraichean before returning along Gleann na Squaib – just as the rain started.
This was another enjoyable day out in good company – in mostly favourable weather. Let’s hope the weather is equally good for the next bus trip to the impressive landscape of Assynt.
