The May Bank Holiday weekend offers an opportunity to go somewhere further afield, often the Islands, and this year’s destination is the magical isle of Rum.
The Rum Cuillin offer some excellent scrambling, and there are superb walks in all directions. Dibidal and Guirdal bothies are most definitely worth a visit too. Rum is a designated nature reserve and a fantastic place to see wildlife, including Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles.
Please note that dogs are allowed on the island, but must be kept on a lead, especially in the village. No dogs in the bunkhouse.

Kinloch Castle
Accommodation: We have 12 places booked at the hostel within the Castle, which are now fully taken. Overspill will be in the form of camping. A shower block is under construction for the campsite, and should be ready by the time we arrive. This is a busy weekend on the island and so the bistro will be buffet style. Management suggest that people wishing to eat in the bistro should book the week before to avoid disappointment. There is also a small shop on the island.
Travel arrangements: We will be camping out (probably in our cars) at Mallaig on Friday night, with the idea of taking the first boat across at 7.30 on Saturday morning. The return boat on Monday is at 15.20, arriving in Mallaig at 17.20. Please note, there is no sailing on Sunday, so you should only make this journey if you are able to stay until Monday. The return fare is £15.35. An online timetable is available here.
UPDATE 25 April: There is no need to prebook or pay for the ferry in either direction. CalMac are aware that a group of 30+ from the MMC will be travelling on Sat and Mon.
A landrover will meet the ferry and take heavy bags (but not people) to the bunkhouse. (May also drop bags off at the campsite.)
Even if you are only camping, please put your name on the list. To book a place on this meet contact Dan Moysey by Email.
