You lookin' at me?
Tyndrum is a fantastic venue with dozens of great hills within easy reach. Spurred on by this thought, everyone was up and away early on Saturday morning. Evelyn Droege, Ray Harron, Oliver Galloway, Hannah McIntosh and Dave Galloway went up Beinn a’ Chreachain and Beinn Achaladair – two of the Bridge of Orchy hills. The going was a bit boggy at the start, but the ridge between the two Munros was good. The rather cold mist enveloping the summits called for some careful navigation (i.e. time to get the GPS out).
Colin Cowie set out on his own to conquer Beinn Narnain; one of his few remaining Munros in the Tyndrum area. Rather surprisingly, he encountered about fifty folk on the hill – apparently the latest fashion in this part of the Highlands is a brown leather hoody. (Mmm…maybe we could get some with the club logo – any takers?).
Illona Morrice, Daniel Moysey, Graeme Morrison & Penny (TWD) went up Ben Cruachan. It was a good day out, but rather spoiled by the persistent drizzle, low cloud and an occasional snow shower. They were back well in time for a coffee and cake at the Green Welly Stop.
Sunday started with a sharp frost and a beautiful blue sky. The forecast for later was poor, so everyone made an early start again. Colin did a mountain bike ride, taking in Tyndrum, the West Highland Way, Bridge of Orchy, and the Falls of Orchy. Illona, Graeme and Dan went up Beinn Chabhair. They opted for the ridge rather than the obvious bog-slog. Probably the best route up, but hard work because the ridge had far too many ups and downs – it felt like we’d climbed the hill at least twice. Another group headed up to Bridge of Orchy to contribute to Evelyn’s Munro list.
