Andy Brooks, Illona Morrice, Martin Collins, Ali Erginsoy and Jake Lee decided to round off the summer climbing season with a trip to Raven’s Crag near Gairloch, the scene of Andy’s youthful exploits and daring first ascents some 15 years ago.”The sun will break through just around that corner” declared Andy as we drove into a wall of water on the approach to Kinlochewe.

“The sun will burst through any minute now,” announced Andy as rain lashed the windows of the mountain cafe in Gairloch where we ruefully sat sipping our capuccinos and munching doughnuts.

“The sun will shine forth just as we approach the crag,” declaimed Andy as we trudged through the sodden peat bogs.

Arriving at the foot of the crag, the sun came out. A great day’s climbing followed on superb gneiss. Good call Andy.
