August 2010 Bus Meet Report: Torridon-Achnashellach Traverse

Sunday, 22 August 2010 One dark winter’s night, a fire fighter called Arthur climbed onto a roof armed with a hose reel, his mission to put out a chimney fire. His colleagues had sheeted up the hearths down below. The officer shouted up the chimney, “When you’re ready Arthur!” With that, he squeezed the trigger. Nothing seemed to happen, until the family next door came running out, covered in soot. The fireman became known as “Wrong Pot Wally”. This stuck with him for the rest of his career. August 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Etive

Sat 31 July – Sun 1 Aug 2010 Glen Etive is Gaelic for “land of much rain”.  True to form, Saturday started with a rather gloomy and wet outlook.  Climbing on the Etive Slabs was out of the question, so Graeme & Imke Henderson, Fiona Gingell, Tom Scott and Daniel Moysey went to the indoor wall at Kinlochleven for some ice/rock climbing.  In keeping with tradition, they paused at the Clachaig on the way back to the hut. Val, Alan, Jake, Drummond, Ella and Fiona climbed Beinn a’ Chreachain and Beinn Achaladair.  It stayed fair until they reached the first summit and then the rain started…which didn’t bother Fiona because…

August 2010 Bus Meet: Torridon-Achnashellach Traverse

Sunday, 22 August 2010 O.S.Map(s): 24/25 Est. time of arrival: 9.30 am Time of departure: 6.30 pm Leave Elgin: 7.00am This is a classic traverse, arguably one of the most spectacular anywhere in the Highlands. It was last undertaken by the Club in April 2008 in the opposite direction. There are a number of alternatives: One starts at the layby just north of the Ling Hut on the A896 main Torridon road, carries on into Coire Grannda and over the bealach into Coire Lair. From here, there is the choice of following the Sgorr Fuadh and Fuar Tholl ridge, or the Beinn Liath Mhor ridge, ending at the layby opposite…
