Club members were treated to the usual mixed Skye weather: strong winds on Friday, fair-to-middling conditions on Saturday, and by Sunday, deluges of rain accompanied by yet more wind. The recently shorn sheep were none too impressed.

Car meet, Inverlael, 16 August 2026 Dan got dropped off at Loch Droma. The midges were out so no time to hang around. Went up Beinn Dearg via the south ridge. Misty views down to Loch Ghranda over 200m below. Continued over Cona Mheall then Meall nan Ceapraichean. Somewhere on the misty descent I overtook the president’s party. Friday David Treagus left his house at 5am to meet Babs and Maggie for coffee at Tarvie, near Garve. They were up and down Little Wyvis in two hours. According to Babs and Maggie the “weather was atrocious”, but David only describes it as “wet and windy”. Evelyne and Debbie went to the RSPB’s Forsinard Nature Reserve. The Cairngorms Traverse Bus Meet is a classic. An opportunity to traverse the massif from south to north however one wishes, without the hassle of having to organise transport and accommodation. Unfortunately time restraints on the bus mean that it is no longer possible to run this as a standard bus meet from Elgin, so we tried the next best thing. The plan was simple – get yourself to the end of your chosen walk by car, public transport or whatever means works for you. Some of our MMC’ers started the meet early, and slightly further north, by heading to Loch Mullardoch on Thursday night. Jule, Carol (with Corrie), Joe and Steve (with Cassie) met up at the dam on Thursday evening. Two Js in tents, Steve in his van and Carol in her beautiful new motorhome. Our intrepid campers had to relocate nearer the dam due to 55mph gusts while Jule needed tape to fix a broken tent pole. Following on from the last successful meet at Cairndow village hall in 2023, where we had great weather, great days on the local mountains, half the club seemed to have been present at the meet, Alistair and the massage chair, and we can’t forget the Saturday night in the Cairndow Inn, I decided that the club should make a return trip in 2026. Friday 20th March On Friday it was still spring like, as Joe was rewarded with a sunny circuit of the Corbett Beinn Bhan by Gairlochy. He was treated to a melody by a song thrush on descending, just as the setting sun was turning the snow on Aonach Mor a delicate pink. 10 members attended the weekend meet at Glenfinnan Bunkhouse and were joined by Justin for the social activities on Saturday night. Friday 5th December Tim climbed Glas Bheinn Mhor from Alltsigh (Loch Ness). It was a pleasant walk up a small hill, initially with clear but grey views to the south.
