July 2016 Weekend Meet Report: Ben Nevis (CIC Hut)
Well the weather forecast was a bit crap… but a small group still headed to the Charles Inglis Clark (CIC) Memorial Hut for the weekend! Three of us (Joe, Dan and Jan) even managed to arrive dry by walking in on the Friday evening! David, Adrian, and Megan had arrived earlier and had to do some drying out! If you don’t know the hut it is just 1km north from the Ben Nevis peak, a brilliant location at 680m, right next to the Alt a’Mhuilinn and nestling under the north face rocks. The next weekend meet is to the CIC hut on Ben Nevis. The CIC hut is in a fantastic location and is probably the closest thing in Britain to the classic mountain huts of the Alps. You don’t have to be a climber to enjoy the location, but if you are then possibilities are endless There are a few spaces left, but numbers are limited. The Moray Mountaineering Club Weekend Meet to Eigg was a long time in the planning. That’s if vaguely thinking about it can be regarded as planning. About ten years ago the club was camping in Glen Brittle. Glen Etive, Inbhirfhaolain. It always rains when the MMC stays here and the weather forecast suggested the tradition would be upheld. Thursday was a beautiful Spring day, and Sod’s Law, a big weather front was moving in on Friday from the southwest. June 2016 Weekend Meet: English Lake District
The Lake District meet is the weekend of 3 – 5 June. This coincides with the Keswick beer festival so many of the campsites in the northern Lakes will be extremely busy. Therefore we have plumped for the campsite at GillHead Farm, Troutbeck, about half way between Keswick and Penrith. This is about 300 miles and 5.5hrs driving from Elgin. The Lakes offers wonderful walking, is very scenic and also has a considerable number of classic rock climbs. April 2016 Bus Meet Report: Achnashellach-Torridon Traverse
]The Bus meet venue this month was to the wonderfully scenic area of Achnashellach and Torridon. A traverse allows a variety of high and low walking options, but the weather in the end dictated most of the action. There was also another good turnout of 33 people for this meet despite the gloomy weather predictions of strong winds and constant rain.
