Sat 31 July – Sun 1 Aug 2010 Glen Etive is Gaelic for “land of much rain”. True to form, Saturday started with a rather gloomy and wet outlook. Climbing on the Etive Slabs was out of the question, so Graeme & Imke Henderson, Fiona Gingell, Tom Scott and Daniel Moysey went to the indoor wall at Kinlochleven for some ice/rock climbing. It was last undertaken by the Club in April 2008 in the opposite direction. There are a number of alternatives: One starts at the layby just north of the Ling Hut on the A896 main Torridon road, carries on into Coire Grannda and over the bealach into Coire Lair. Sat 31st July – Sun 1st August Accommodation: Grampian Club hut, Inbhirfhaolain. Situated 7 miles from junction of Glen Etive Road with Tyndrum/ Glencoe Road (A82) and 5 miles from Loch Etive Pier. A basic but comfortable climbing hut, sleeping 13. Cost: £10 per person for the weekend if we get full capacity, more if fewer numbers. Facilities: Double sleeping platform supplied with mattresses, but bring sleeping bags. Sat 3 – Sun 4 July 2010 A mix of poor weather forecast, holidays and a wedding took their toll on the turnout for this meet; in the event it was just Graeme Morrison, Margaret Hattersley and Illona Morrice who arrived at the Applecross campsite on Friday night. Margaret went home the next morning due to a wild night. Sunday, 20th June 2010 Thank you to the twenty-one members and guests who set off from Loch Bhraoin in typical flaming June weather (damp and dreich). Putting their best foot forward (don’t know if it was the left or right), Alan and Fiona Duncan disappeared into the clag up the steep slopes of Tom an Fhiodha and on up to the airy top of Sgurr Dubh. June 2010 Weekend Meet Report: Glen Affric
Sat 5th – Sun 6th June 2010 Nine members made the trek to the beautiful Strawberry Cottage in Glen Affric. Unfortunately, the midges were waiting for us, so despite being a fine evening we were forced to quench our thirst indoors next to the roaring fire (it might be June, but burning stuff is always good). Despite a few sore heads (attributed to cheap whisky), Fiona Duncan, Graeme Morrison, Evelyn Droege, Alan Duncan, Jake Lee, Chrissy McKay, Ali Erginsoy, Daniel Moysey and two dogs set off to traverse the three Munros of Mam Sodhail, Carn Eighe and Beinn Fhionnlaidh. Sunday, 20th June 2010 O.S.Map(s): 19/21 Est. time of arrival: 10.000am Time of departure: 18.30pm Leave Elgin: 7.00am A chance to bag some of the most remote hills in Scotland! A fit party can include Sgurr Ban. Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and Beinn Tarsuinn for a long day, or you can pick and mix. Alternatively, a low level traverse through spectacular scenery is a great prize in its own right. The time of departure of 18.30 is what should be aimed for, but we will probably have the pub stop in Kinlochewe, so there may be some leeway. Just don’t expect a pint if you are late!
